Character Info
Character Name: Chris Redfield
Character’s Age: 35
Fandom: Resident Evil
Timeline: Post Resident Evil 5
Appearance: The guy is built like a tank. Standing at six foot one, he is three hundred pounds of pretty much nothing but muscle. Brown hair and brown eyes, Chris is neither overly handsome, nor overly ugly. He's a sort of average joe. He has a fairly strong jaw, and often sports a grizzled five o'clock shadow, but keeps himself clean shaved for the most part. The only time he is without his equipment is when he is not on a mission, which isn't very often, being the decorated agent that he is. His equipment consists of a headset radio, a PDA, a hand gun, a kevlar utility vest, as well as a utility belt which he uses to keep grenades, extra ammunition for his handgun, a knife on his belt, and a machete strapped to his back. Guy likes to be prepared for anything.
History: Chris was born in 1973; very little is known about his childhood, what is known is that he lived with his parents and younger sister Claire. After graduating from high school, Chris joined the United States Air Force as a pilot, but Chris was soon discharged from service due to his frequent disagreements with his superiors, and his bad habits of exceeding the authority of his rank. Chris's parents were killed in a car accident, and Chris soon returned home to look after his younger sister. However, their parents' death had taken a toll on the once close siblings' relationship, and before long Chris and Claire became quite distant, barely speaking or even seeing each other for long periods of time.
After being kicked out of the Air Force Chris became a drifter, but he soon met and befriended a man named Barry Burton, who recruited him to become a member of the newly formed Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.). Captained by Albert Wesker, he recognized Chris's potential and his brief military record was enough to land Chris a position in the tactical unit. He was soon brought on board as a member of Alpha team, where Chris met and befriended Jill Valentine, as well as learning a mutual respect for S.T.A.R.S.'s commanding officer, and captain of the Alpha team, Albert Wesker.
In what would be one of his last missions as a member of S.T.A.R.S., Chris and the rest of his team were deployed in the Arklay mountains for what was supposed to be a routine mission- but upon being attacked by crazed dogs he and his team found themselves trapped in a mansion not only full of zombies, but other horrifying mutations as well. Here he also discovered the remains of Bravo team, another division of S.T.A.R.S. Before long Chris and his friends began to unearth the truth of the mansions' seedy past, as well as the truth behind the creatures plaguing the mountainside, and the mansion itself. A company called Umbrella Corporation (known for it's pharmaceutical research) had secretly been engineering bio organic weapons and other deadly viruses, and this was the cause behind the dead walking, as well as a number of horrifying mutant creatures plagueing the mansion. To make matters worse, Chris's captain, Albert Wesker, had set Alpha team up, and was working for Umbrella Corp. Wesker and Chris had always shared a mutual respect and understanding, but when Wesker began to wax poetic about the horrors of the mansion, and how it was merely a beginning Chris realized that Wesker was hardly deserving of his respect. But when Wesker released one of Umbrella's most terrifying monsters, the Tyrant, it brutally murdered the S.T.A.R.S.'s ex-captain before Chris's very eyes. Chris and a handful of others, including Barry Burton, Jill Valentine and Rebecca Chambers (the medic of S.T.A.R.S.'s Bravo team) barely managed to escape the mansion intact, killing the tyrant and triggering the self-destruct mechanism inside the mansion before fleeing in a helicopter.
But it did not end there.
Upon returning to Raccoon City Chris and his team mates attempted to warn the city of the Umbrella Corporations operations- but they were discredited and brushed off. This left Chris with only one option: Quit S.T.A.R.S. and pursue Umbrella Corp. head on. Chris spent several months in Europe pursuing leads on Umbrella, and eventually met up with Jill Valentine and Barry Burton, the two having escaped the 'Raccoon City Incident' and together they attempted to work together to bring down Umbrella. However, before long Chris received a message Leon S. Kennedy, who had a message from his sister, Claire. Claire had been searching for him since his involvement in Arklay Mountains, and she needed his help after being captured and trapped on Rockfort Island. Chris went to his sisters aide, and upon arriving on the island he discovered that it too, was infested with zombies. He quickly learned that Claire has been taken to a facility in Antarctica, as well as the heavy news that Wesker survived their encounter at the mansion. Chris and Wesker had a brief battle on Rockfort Island, enough for Chris to learn of Wesker's new found superhuman strength, (thanks to one of the viruses he had injected from Umbrella) and to learn of Claire's true location, before Wesker departed to continue his plans. Upon arriving in Antarctica Chris discovered his sister in a replica of the Arklay mansion, and here he met and confronted a woman named Alexia Ashford, the creator of the T-Veronica virus. She had mutated to combat Wesker's new found strength, but together with Claire Alexia was finished off. Chris once again encountered his ex-captain, and the two had a brief but bitter battle. It was only interrupted by the iminent destruction of the mansion, and Chris and Claire managed to escape in a Harrier Jet before being blown sky high.
Still, Umbrella endured, and with his sister safe and sound it once again became Chris's primary mission to bring the company down. In 2003 Chris and Jill joined a regional biohazard containment unit, and they had heard rumors of the possibility that Umbrella had a new facility stationed somewhere in Russia, where they were working on a new B.O.W. project.
Chris and his team members didn't hesitate to go into Russia; they couldn't afford to wait for the cooperation from the Russian Government. If they were going to take down Umbrella, it was now, or never.
When they arrived in Russia they discovered that several of the bio organic weapons had already managed to make it to the surface, and Chris immediately began working on securing the facility. Eventually they managed to infiltrate Umbrella's base, but they were unprepared for the sheer number of B.O.W.s that awaited them. The team suffered many casualties, but Chris and Jill were determined to see that their friends' efforts were not wasted. Pushing on Chris and Jill traveled deeper into the facility, braving the depths of Hell itself as they fought desperately to uncover not only what Umbrella was doing here, but also to severely cripple the horrific company. In one of the lowest levels, the two ex-S.T.A.R.S. members found themselves in a room obviously used for B.O.W. testing. It was here they met the man Sergei Vladmir, the one responsible for the Russian facility, along with Umbrella's latest creation, the T.A.L.O.S. project. It was what Sergei considered Umbrella's ultimate weapon; which Chris and Jill fought together. They managed to finish the T.A.L.O.S. off, and after taking control of the facility Chris and Jill realized that it would only be a matter of time before Umbrella was finished.
This did not, however, stop the spread of Umbrella's viruses and weapons technology from leeching into the black market, and after Umbrella's collapse Chris and Jill helped to found the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (or B.S.A.A.) to combat the bioterrorism spreading in the black market. They appointed themselves partners, and while traversing the world searching for Wesker, as well as accomplish their primary goal of reducing the number of bio-weapons available, Chris and Jill received a tip about the location of Umbrella's original C.E.O.- Ozwell E. Spencer. Intending to bring him in for questioning Chris and Jill arrived at Spencer's hideout only to find their old friend Albert Wesker standing over Spencer's corpse. Chris and Jill engaged in a fight with Wesker, but were quickly outmatched. As Wesker was about to deal Chris a finishing blow, Jill launched herself at Wesker hurtling them both through a window and down a cliff. Chris could do nothing but watch as his partner plunged to her death. The B.S.A.A. conducted a three day search for Jill and Wesker's bodies, but could turn up no trace of either person. As a result, Jill was officially declared dead, and the guilt weighed heavily upon Chris's conscience.
Three years later and still serving as a member of the B.S.A.A. Chris was deployed to Kijuju to arrest a Bio-weapons dealer by the name of Ricardo Irving. Here, he met fellow B.S.A.A. member Sheva Alomar, and together they soon discovered that Kijuju was suffering from an outbreak of a new strain of Las Plagas (a bio organic weapon that had previously been seen in Spain), and were forced to take down hordes of vicious infected locals, dubbed "Majini" (roughly meaning "wicked people" in Swahili). With the aid of several other B.S.A.A. members, Sheva and Chris managed to survive a number of horrific dangers, before eventually managing to come in contact with Ricardo Irving. Ricardo escaped, thanks to help from a mysterious cloaked woman, however Irving had left behind a haunting piece of evidence; a file depicting a blond woman who Chris recognized as his old friend and partner, Jill Valentine. Chasing Ricardo for more information, Sheva and Chris soon managed to corner Ricardo on his boat, where he injected himself with a powerful strain of the Las Plagas virus. With Sheva, and Josh, another fellow B.S.A.A. member's help, they managed to take down the horrific B.O.W. creature that Irving has become. But their victory was short lived. With Ricardo taken down, Chris's objective shifts to that of Jill, and although surprised Sheva vows to see things to the end with Chris.
With Irving's advice Chris and Sheva made their way to a cave, while Josh departed to head back for reinforcements. The cave soon lead them to a large cave full of capsules used to store test subjects, and here Chris rushed to a monitor to find out about the possibility of Jill's whereabouts. Finding her capsule empty, they were attacked by another B.O.W. and after it's defeat Excella Gionne, a co-founder of a medical company by the name of TriCell (responsible for the outbreak of Las Plagas in Kijuju), makes her presence known and denied having any knowledge of Jill's whereabouts. Upon reaching Excella's office, Sheva and Chris discover that she is not alone, and once again Wesker makes a return to Chris's life. Here they manage to reveal the true motives of Wesker; a new breed of virus known as Uroborus. When Chris demands to know the whereabouts of Jill, Wesker stunned him by removing the hood of his mysterious cloaked helper, who is none other than Jill herself. Chris then attempted to bring her back to herself, but he and Sheva were quickly attacked by Chris's old partner. Overwhelmed by her, Wesker prepared to leave with Excella- when finally Chris managed to get through to Jill. Surprised by this fact, Wesker activated a device that caused Jill extreme agony, and leaves Chris to watch her suffer. Sheva, spotting a device upon Jill's chest that seemed to be the source of her mind control, helped Chris to forcefully remove it, and although Jill collapsed Chris was relieved to find that she was alive, and no longer controlled by Wesker. Jill then urged Chris to continue on, and stop Wesker before he could finish his preparations. Chris refused, wanting to see Jill to safety after having believed to be the cause of her death for so long, but Jill convinced Chris that he was the only one capable of stopping Wesker, and so reluctantly, Chris and Sheva depart once more to put a stop to Wesker's plot.
The duo managed to track down Excella and when she ran off in a panic she left behind a vial of something which Sheva believed to be important because of how Excella had been guarding it. Soon after Excella is betrayed by Wesker, he having injected her with the Uroboros virus. It killed Excella, and destroyed her body before attacking a pile of corpses left behind by Wesker for the virus to feed on. However, even the giant B.O.W. is eventually taken down by the two, and they turn their sights on defeating Wesker once and for all. Chris then received a call from Jill, and she explained that the vial Sheva had collected was a virus that Wesker needed to keep the virus inside him stable, they also learn that the amount injected has to be precise, otherwise Wesker's power could be weakened. Chris and Sheva once again confront Wesker, and although Wesker had the very clear advantage, Chris and Sheva managed to inject the virus into Wesker's chest, causing him to flee onto his airplane, but not before Wesker told Chris that it was already too late, and soon Uroboros would be released upon the world, and natural selection via the virus would create a new world. Chris and Sheva follow, and manage to take advantage of his weakened state and send him flying out of the airplane's cargo bay, but Wesker takes a hold of Sheva's leg, determined to take her down with him. As Chris watched, the memories of losing Jill passed through his mind, and he refused to let Wesker take another partner from him. Jumping to grab Sheva as she loses her grip, Sheva shot Wesker in the face, and he was sucked out the back of the plane. The plane crash lands into a volcano, where Chris and Sheva are shocked to discover that Wesker some how managed to survive the fall from the plane. Enraged, Wesker punches through one of the containers of the Uroboros virus, allowing it to take hold of him, and as he mutated he attacked Chris and Sheva. Sheva upon fleeing across a flimsy rock bridge was separated from Chris and Wesker when the bridge collapsed, and Chris was forced to find a new way to fight Wesker, while also searching for a way to get to Sheva once more.
After PUNCHING over a massive boulder and running to reunite with Sheva, Chris and Sheva manage to overpower Wesker, and as he stood, injurred, the rock beneath him crumbled, and he slipped into the lava. Jill and Josh arrived in a helicopter just in time to witness Wesker's apparent demise, and they narrowly save Chris and Sheva from the same firey fate. Chris and Sheva made it into the helicopter only to watch as Wesker emerged one last time from the lava, and one of his mutated tentacles from the Uroboros virus lashed out, catching the helicopter skids. Chris and Sheva grabbed one of the two RPG-7's Josh brought along, and together took aim, and fired, finally putting an end to Albert Wesker.
Following the events of Kijuju, Chris was presented with a medal commending his actions in Kijuju- but Chris relapsed into his memories, and struggled with dealing with the events following Kijuju. Experiencing what appeared to be post traumatic stress disorder by those around him, Chris deals with his horrible memories in the only way he can- by moving forward, fighting through his nightmares to forge new memories.
Personality: Chris is a straight-laced, bull-headed type of person who is always determined to get the job done. It was this attitude that got him kicked out of the air force, as he often disagreed with his superiors, and while Chris can take orders he prefers to do what he believes is right, rather than mindlessly listen to what other's tell him. Chris has spent much of his life devoted to the protection and service of other people, and in doing so he attempts to make the world a safer place to people to live in. He is incredibly protective of his younger sister, Claire, and although they had drifted apart they still share a close bond to one another, and he would do anything to protect her.
Although Chris is normally rather reserved and serious, he does have his moments where he makes clever joking quips, and, occasionally, not so clever. But usually, Chris is rather reserved, and often comes across as stoic and a little distant. Despite this, he makes friends easily because of his brave, and loyal nature, and the friends he makes he is devoted to, willing to do almost anything to protect them.
However, Chris does possess a dark side, and a first and foremost example of it is his obsessive nature. Once Chris gets his mind on something he can't let it go, and will go to almost any lengths to find a means to his end. He has a tendency to obsess to a point that it is almost unhealthy, as is showcased by his drive and determination to bring down Umbrella. Chris also possesses a heated temper, and has been known to fly off the handle at what should have been a rather small thing. His temper normally only surfaces in the more extreme of situations though, and especially during anything that involves Umbrella, or Wesker. But his rage does tend to linger just below the surface, and it is this anger that gives Chris his usual, trademark scowl.
Although Chris is quite street smart, having been to Hell and back, and undoubtedly he possesses much field experience, things with a more technologically advanced description often baffle Chris. He is, by no means, stupid. It is merely that he has a tendency to be a bit dense.
Most recently, due to the events that took place in Kijuju Chris has been suffering mental lapses, in which he relives the nightmares suffered in Africa and has trouble distinguishing what's real from his nightmarish memories. These breakdowns are very unusual and infrequent, but they do happen, and when they do Chris is very unstable.
Powers/Abilities: Chris possesses no supernatural abilities to speak of. He's just a really heavily built guy who will punch out your boulders. Chris is, and always has been an incredibly talented marksman with any type of firearm, and he was known to be the best shot in the Raccoon City Police department. Having trained in the Air Force, Chris possesses his U.S.A.F. license and can fly just about any aircraft. Of course, he received tactical training during both his time in the military, as well as his time as a S.T.A.R.S. member. He is extremely skilled in all types of hand to hand contact and close quarters battles, but is especially proficient with a knife. Chris also likely knows basic first aid (although you wouldn't know it, based on his reliance of first aid sprays and herbs).
Limitations: N/A, although his one weakness is being crushed by medieval suits of armour.
Writing Samples
Log/Third Person Sample: He doesn't talk about it; that's just how he copes.
He pushes himself just as hard as ever, and he thinks it makes up for what he won't talk about.
On the surface, it's same-old Chris. He smiles and jokes just the same as always; like there's nothing wrong.
But there are always little things that change.
He had to dispose of his broken TV, and he's never bothered to replace it. He must have dozed off on the couch, and then rolled over the remote- but when the television set flickered on to the sound of screams and maddening laughter Chris' only instinct had been to shoot.
He keeps his gun close by most nights; it's why his old TV now had a nine millimeter hole, and Chris a whole lot of explaining.
He still denies it to anyone that asks; but as he holds his head face down beneath his bath water, he can't help but wonder if they're right. Deep down he knows they're right. The water is still running behind him; gushing into the tub, the water level rising around him. They must be right, or Chris wouldn't be sitting face down fully dressed in ice cold water to calm him down.
He keeps fighting, because Chris honestly doesn't know what else he would do. A part of him twists with revulsion at the knowledge; once the remnants of Umbrella are gone for good, what will be left for a man like Chris?
Regardless, he drives himself forward.
Because it's better than looking back.
Journal Entry/First Person Sample: An excerpt from the journal of Chris Redfield
You never look at things the same way again. I said I'd never be like that.
They said I had to go for psychiatric evaluation; but I think it's a joke. How many people slip through on technicalities. It isn't hard to act normal. I don't see the point.
Shrink says I should keep a journal, just to jot down thoughts. I haven't kept one in a long time, there just hasn't been time I guess. I don't know what to write about anymore anyway. With everything that happened in Kijiju-
Well, I'm just glad that's over. There's still work to do, but for once I feel like we're finally getting somewhere. I don't think it'll be long now before we can wipe the remnants of Umbrella out for good.
[There seems to be something here, but it has since been heavily scribbled out.]
I haven't spoken with my sister in awhile, but whenever I do she says she's worried- there's nothing to worry about.
Just keep moving forward.
