personality:
Chris is a straight-laced, bull-headed type of person who is always determined to get the job done. It was this attitude that got him kicked out of the air force, as he often disagreed with his superiors, and while Chris can take orders he prefers to do what he believes is right, rather than mindlessly listen to what other's tell him. Chris has spent much of his life devoted to the protection and service of other people, and in doing so he attempts to make the world a safer place to people to live in. He is incredibly protective of his younger sister, Claire, and although they had drifted apart they still share a close bond to one another, and he would do anything to protect her.

Although Chris is normally rather reserved and serious, he does have his moments where he makes clever joking quips, and, occasionally, not so clever. But usually, Chris is rather reserved, and often comes across as stoic and a little distant. Despite this, he makes friends easily because of his brave, and loyal nature, and the friends he makes he is devoted to, willing to do almost anything to protect them.

However, Chris does possess a dark side, and a first and foremost example of it is his obsessive nature. Once Chris gets his mind on something he can't let it go, and will go to almost any lengths to find a means to his end. He has a tendency to obsess to a point that it is almost unhealthy, as is showcased by his drive and determination to bring down Umbrella. Chris also possesses a heated temper, and has been known to fly off the handle at what should have been a rather small thing. His temper normally only surfaces in the more extreme of situations though, and especially during anything that involves Umbrella, or Wesker. But his rage does tend to linger just below the surface, and it is this anger that gives Chris his usual, trademark scowl.

Although Chris is quite street smart, having been to Hell and back, and undoubtedly he possesses much field experience, things with a more technologically advanced description often baffle Chris. He is, by no means, stupid. It is merely that he has a tendency to be a bit dense.

Most recently, due to the events that took place in Kijuju Chris has been suffering post traumatic stress disorder mental lapses, in which he relives the nightmares suffered in Africa and has trouble distinguishing what's real from his nightmarish memories. These breakdowns are very unusual and infrequent, but they do happen, and when they do Chris is very unstable. It takes time

abilities/powers: Chris possesses no supernatural abilities to speak of. He's just a really heavily built guy who will punch out your boulders. Chris is, and always has been an incredibly talented marksman with any type of firearm, and he was known to be the best shot in the Raccoon City Police department. Having trained in the Air Force, Chris possesses his U.S.A.F. license and can fly just about any aircraft. Of course, he received tactical training during both his time in the military, as well as his time as a S.T.A.R.S. member. He is extremely skilled in all types of hand to hand contact and close quarters battles, but is especially proficient with a knife. Chris also likely knows basic first aid (although you wouldn't know it, based on his reliance of first aid sprays and herbs).

first person sample:
An excerpt from the journal of Chris Redfield
You never look at things the same way again. I said I'd never be like that.

They said I had to go for psychiatric evaluation; but I think it's a joke. How many people slip through on technicalities. It isn't hard to act normal. I don't see the point.

Shrink says I should keep a journal, just to jot down thoughts. I haven't kept one in a long time, there just hasn't been time I guess. I don't know what to write about anymore anyway. With everything that happened in Kijiju-

Well, I'm just glad that's over. There's still work to do, but for once I feel like we're finally getting somewhere. I don't think it'll be long now before we can wipe the remnants of Umbrella out for good.

[There seems to be something here, but it has since been heavily scribbled out.]

I haven't spoken with my sister in awhile, but whenever I do she says she's worried- there's nothing to worry about.

Just keep moving forward.

- Chris

third person sample:
He doesn't talk about it; that's just how he copes.

He pushes himself just as hard as ever, and he thinks it makes up for what he won't talk about.

On the surface, it's same-old Chris. He smiles and jokes just the same as always; like there's nothing wrong.

But there are always little things that change.

He had to dispose of his broken TV, and he's never bothered to replace it. He must have dozed off on the couch, and then rolled over the remote- but when the television set flickered on to the sound of screams and maddening laughter Chris' only instinct had been to shoot.

He keeps his gun close by most nights; it's why his old TV now had a nine millimeter hole, and Chris a whole lot of explaining.

He still denies it to anyone that asks; but as he holds his head face down beneath his bath water, he can't help but wonder if they're right. Deep down he knows they're right. The water is still running behind him; gushing into the tub, the water level rising around him. They must be right, or Chris wouldn't be sitting face down fully dressed in ice cold water to calm him down.

He keeps fighting, because Chris honestly doesn't know what else he would do. A part of him twists with revulsion at the knowledge; once the remnants of Umbrella are gone for good, what will be left for a man like Chris?

Regardless, he drives himself forward.

Because it's better than looking back.
